Llewellyn Dawn Smith is a free-spirited, fun-loving nurse educator whose candid authenticity and enthusiasm for life set her apart. A proud graduate of Tidewater Community College (Class of 1985), she continued her academic journey at Old Dominion University, ultimately earning a master’s degree in nursing education.
She is a recently retired staff nurse from Sentara Obici Hospital. Llewellyn is also shaping the future of healthcare as a Professor of Nursing at Paul D. Camp Community College. In her role, she teaches nursing students at all levels, blending didactic instruction with hands-on clinical guidance. Admired by her students for her extensive experience, approachable style, and sharp clinical judgment, she fosters a learning environment enriched by her refreshingly honest perspective and informal yet impactful curriculum.
Beyond the classroom and hospital setting, Llewellyn has championed cannabis nursing advocacy for over a decade, dedicating her expertise to the American Cannabis Nurses Association (ACNA) in various capacities. In 2022, she proudly served as the organization’s President and now holds the distinguished role of Past President. Notably, she played a key role in the creation of the Cannabis Nursing Scope & Standards of Practice, published in 2024. Additionally, she contributes to the advancement of nursing in Virginia as Treasurer of the Virginia Nurses Association and the Virginia Nurses Foundation (VNA/VNF).
Llewellyn owns and operates Smith Cannabis LLC 2016 in Portsmouth Virginia as a Cannabis Nurse Educator Consultant.
