The Road to 30

This first episode tells the story of the beginning of the patient led movement to provide access to medical cannabis.  Alice O’Leary Randall relays the story of her husband, the late Robert Randall, who was busted for growing cannabis, won in court with the medical necessity defense and gained access to government grown cannabis.  Alice and Robert then founded the Alliance for Cannabis Therapeutics (ACT) which set out to help others gain access to cannabis through the Compassionate Investigational New Drug (IND) Program.  In addition Irvin Rosenfeld tells his story as the 2nd patient to receive federally grown cannabis, along with Juan (Zeno) Sanchez-Ramos, a noted movement disorder neurologist who served as Irv’s IND protocol physician for a period of time.  The closing of the IND access to cannabis and their stories set the stage for the creation of Patients Out of Time.

Patients Out of Time was founded in 1995 as a 501c3 volunteer non-profit organization with the mission to educate healthcare professionals and the public about the endocannabinoid system and the therapeutic use of cannabis.  Created by two U.S. Navy Veterans, 2025 marks the 30th Anniversary of this small, but mighty organization that set out to end the cruel and unjust prohibition of cannabis by showcasing the world history of this plant’s medicinal use and the scientific research to explain and validate its efficacy.  Patients Out of Time is known for its preeminent accredited conference series featuring international cannabis researchers and clinicians.  This podcast series will highlight the many pioneers who blazed the trail to the truth about cannabis in spite of the roadblocks and intimidation of the federal prohibition of marijuana.  Hear from the legends themselves as well as those who knew those heroes who have since passed.  The Road to 30 will lead you to The Sixteenth National Clinical Conference on Cannabis Therapeutics that will be held in Charlottesville, VA on September 14-16, 2025.  We hope you enjoy the ride!
